Hi everyone!

I am excited about launching my new website within the next couple of days here :) Its a big deal for me since I have been battling with this thing for over a month now. I thought building a website from scratch would be easy as cake. WRONG. It was a task I wish I had never taken on...but I did and I finally finished that bad boy!

In the mean time I have been enjoying our beautiful weather up here in northern Nevada and getting as many shoots in as possible! I have had the pleasure of taking pictures of beautiful families and babies. Next to wedding photography, nothing beats taking pictures for families and babies :)

I attached a couple photos from recent sessions. What do ya'll think?

We will be launching a new website in a couple of days...so excited! I have been wanting to re-design our site for a while but did not want to start a task I couldn't finish. I finally got it done yesterday and have sent in the request to go live :)

We have had an amazing start to our spring 2013 season. We have photographed some beautiful families, newborns and weddings. I can't wait to see what this summer brings! Below are a favorite photograph from each shoot I have done this month.

Which one is your favorite?

POSING

Posing is always something that my clients ask me about. Many people go into a photo session worried that they won't know what to do and they will end up looking awkward in their photos. Not to fear! If you have a great photographer they will walk you through the session and you won't even know they are having you change positions, etc. However, many people want to have some poses pre-planned so they can feel comfortable knowing they will get some poses that they like and have thought about.

For couples and families its important to capture who you really are and how you really interact with each other. "Posing" is really something that you should be doing between all the laughter and fun your having with each other. Below I have put in some pictures of basic couple posing to give you an idea of what you would like to do :)

"In Love" pose

Switch who is looking at the camera

Add depth by putting one person in front

Be your playful self!

Kissing...need I say more?

Capture candid moments

Change your facial expressions so they aren't the same in every photo

The dip kiss...one of my favorites!

HOW TO USE NATURAL LIGHTING...

I get a lot of questions around how to properly use natural lighting to take good pictures of your kids of family. Natural lighting is my number one favorite!!! Don't get me wrong, studio pictures are cute and traditional but nothing beats the look and feel of pictures taken outside.

The number one thing to remember when taking pictures outside is the time of day. When the sun is too bright it is hard to not have your subject look "washed out" in the picture. My favorite time of day to take pictures is right before sunrise or sunset. This gives you the soft glow that you want and beautiful colors.

The number two thing to remember is the direction of the lighting. Make sure your source of lighting is BEHIND you. This allows your subject to have a natural "spot light" on them. Combine the time of day and the lighting behind you, VOILA! You have a natural canvas that will make your subject look amazing! Below is a great example of lighting and how it should be used. You can see that the time of day combined with the lighting coming from the right direction makes a huge difference!

A START TO A NEW YEAR

Hi everyone! I have officially broke down and decided that I needed to join the blogger world :) As a new year resolution I have decided that I am no longer going to take the back seat approach to my love for photography...I am going to up my game this year and learn as much as possible!!! Since I am having my first baby within a matter of weeks, I am going to really harness my energy around newborn and baby photography. I have come across some amazing photographers that have inspired me and the style of newborn photography that I am going to aim for. I know that there is a lot to learn but I am hoping I can get some of it down while my baby Garrett is small. Here's to 2013 :)

Here is a picture that I took of my nephew when he was about a week old, what do y'all think?
